The Driver CPC Scheme is aimed at all LGV and PSV drivers who drive professionally in the UK and Europe. The aim of the scheme is to improve the knowledge base and skill level of all professional drivers and ensuring that this is maintained throughout their working life.
All new LGV drivers who have took their test after September 2009 will complete their Initial Driver CPC and then have 5 years to undertake 35 hours of training, known as Periodic Training, over a 5 year period from the date of their test to retain their LGV license.
Those professional drivers who hold LGV licenses with the following classes are required to complete this training - category C, C1, C+E or C1+E
All LGV drivers who held their license prior to the 9th September 2009 have 5 years to complete their 35 hours of Periodic Training to enable them to retain their LGV license from 9th September 2014.
This Periodic Training will then continue with each driver required to attain 35 hours of training every 5 years.
You can complete your Driver CPC by doing individual days, say 1 day a year, or by attending a week long course. Each day is a minimum of 7 hours of training so you will need to attend 5 days of training to attain your Driver Qualification Card.
The course covers a range of topical topics including:-
➤ Drivers Hours
➤ Tachograph Rules
➤ Safe Loading
➤ Vehicle Inspections and Defect Report
➤ Vehicle Weights and Dimensions
